How to Play Low-Budget Repairs

Learn the Low-Budget Repairs gameplay loop, controls, shops, inventory, saving and the safest way to finish your first client jobs.

DIRECT ANSWER

The short version

Accept a job, read its Work Plans, collect or buy the required supplies, then complete each hands-on task and use the final phone or character interaction. Treat the on-screen prompt as the authority for the object in your hands, and make a separate manual save before a long job or unfamiliar placement sequence.

Before you accept a job

Use the quiet time at home to check your current saves and inventory. A job can supply its own material, ask you to buy something, or wait for a story unlock, so carrying every loose item is not automatically useful. Keep a known-good save and avoid discarding anything that looks unique to the current contract.

  • Let Steam finish any pending update
  • Create a manual save when the menu allows it
  • Leave space in your carried inventory for mission objects
  • Read the entire objective list before buying supplies

The beginner repair loop

  1. Accept the story or side job and enter the work area.
  2. Open or read Work Plans and identify the rooms, surfaces and materials named there.
  3. Inspect nearby shelves, boxes and the vehicle for supplied objects before shopping.
  4. Equip the tool requested by the live prompt and complete one task at a time.
  5. Recheck Work Plans after each repair, cleaning pass or installation.
  6. Save after a stable milestone when manual saving is available.
  7. Use the wall phone, active character marker or scripted interaction to finish the job.

Use Work Plans as the source of truth

A room can look finished while one small objective remains. Compare the exact room group, item, color and surface in Work Plans instead of relying on appearance. If a percentage or checklist line does not move, inspect edges, furniture legs, cables and objects partly hidden behind other props before repeating the whole room.

Tool wheel, hotbar and backpack

These systems answer different questions: which tool is active, which carried item is ready, and which eligible item is stored. The same key may perform another action when a mountable object or tool is equipped. Follow the current prompt first and use the Controls guide when a localized prompt is blank or unclear.

  • Choose the requested tool rather than forcing the last equipped tool
  • Keep mission-critical supplies until the objective registers
  • Check the hotbar before assuming an item disappeared
  • Do not throw away an object simply because the room looks complete

Supplies, shops and unlocks

Search the job area before paying for a duplicate: supplies can sit on a wall shelf, in a box, on the truck or near the surface being repaired. Budowlanex is the large hardware and furniture store, while the pawn shop is near the player's house. If a shop or option is absent, progress the active story objective before treating that absence as a map bug.

Finish and leave the job

Clearing the visible repair work is not always the final step. A normal apartment can require the wall phone near the exit; a story mission may point to a character or scripted event instead. Check the active objective and use that hand-in before diagnosing a progression failure.

  • Confirm no Work Plans line remains
  • Look near the exit for the wall phone
  • Follow an active character marker when there is no phone
  • Wait for the completion state before loading another area

First-hour mistakes that cost time

  • Buying an item before checking for a supplied copy
  • Using the correct object on the wrong room or surface
  • Repeating completed work before checking the final hand-in
  • Overwriting the only manual save while testing a workaround
  • Treating a context-sensitive key as a universal control

When the objective still will not move

Install the current update, preserve the save, and record the job name, exact objective wording, tool or item used, and what changes after reloading. Then compare that narrow symptom with Known Issues. A community workaround can be worth trying, but it is not proof that every save shares the same cause.
